Manganese (Manganese), the chemical element, elemental symbol Mn, atomic number 25, is an off-white, hard brittle, shiny transition metal. Pure metal manganese is a slightly softer metal than iron, containing a small amount of impurities manganese is hard and brittle, and will oxidize when wet. Manganese widely exists in nature, soil contains 0.25% manganese, tea, wheat and hard shell fruits contain more manganese. Operations in contact with manganese include crushing, mining, electric welding, production of dry batteries, dye industry, etc.

According to data from the Ministry of Natural Resources, China's manganese ore reserves in 2022 are 280 million tons, ranking second in the world. Manganese ore resources are abundant, but the regional distribution is uneven, and the ore grade varies greatly. In terms of regions, the region with the highest manganese ore reserves is Guangxi, with reserves of 120 million tons, accounting for 43% of the national reserves; followed by Guizhou, with reserves of 50 million tons, accounting for 18% of the national reserves.
In recent years, my country has been highly dependent on imports of manganese ore, mainly because my country's manganese ore resources are of low grade, high impurities, high mining costs, and strict safety and environmental protection controls in the mining industry, resulting in poor domestic manganese ore production. In 2022, my country's imports of manganese ore and its concentrates were 29.86 million tons, and exports were 16,000 tons.

Manganese ore resources in China are abundant and widely distributed, and are produced in 21 provinces (regions) in China. There are 213 mining areas with proven reserves, and the total reserves of ore are 566 million tons, ranking third in the world. China is less rich in manganese ore, accounting for only 6.4% of the reserves. In terms of regional distribution, Guangxi and Hunan are the most abundant, accounting for 55% of the total reserves in China. Guizhou, Yunnan, Liaoning, Sichuan and other places followed. From the perspective of deposit genetic types, mainly sedimentary manganese ore, such as Guangxi Xialei manganese ore, Guizhou Zunyi manganese ore, Hunan Xiangtan manganese ore, Yongzhou Lingling District Zhushan manganese ore, Liaoning Wafangzi manganese ore, Jiangxi Leping manganese ore, etc.; The second is the volcano-sedimentary deposit, such as the Motosala iron manganese deposit in Xinjiang. Metamorphic deposits, such as Huya manganese ore in Sichuan; Hydrothermal modification of manganese deposits, such as Manaoshan manganese deposit in Hunan province; Supergenetic manganese deposit, such as Qinzhou manganese deposit in Guangxi. From the point of view of metallogenic age, manganese deposits were formed from Proterozoic to Quaternary, with Sinian and Devonian being the most important.
