Chemical composition of ferrosilicon

Ferrosilicon is an important alloy material, with a wide range of applications in steel, casting, metallurgy and other fields have a very important role. The chemical composition of ferrosilicon is mainly silicon and iron, of which the content of silicon is generally more than 70%, and the content of iron is about 20% to 30%.

Ferrosilicon also contains a small amount of carbon, phosphorus, manganese, sulfur and other elements, the content of these elements have a certain effect on the performance of ferrosilicon. For example, the higher the carbon content, the higher the strength and hardness of ferrosilicon; The content of phosphorus and manganese has a certain effect on the ductility and toughness of ferrosilicon, and the content of sulfur also has a certain effect on the tensile strength and toughness of ferrosilicon.

Ferrosilicon smelting

Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel chips, quartz (or silica) as raw materials, and is refined by electric furnace. In traditional refining of ferrosilicon, silicon is reduced from silica containing SI02. Smelting ferrosilicon mostly uses metallurgical coke as reducing agent, and steel scrap is the regulator of ferrosilicon.

Production of a ton of ferrosilicon raw materials and energy consumption:

Silica: 1780-1850kg

Coke :890-930kg

Steel chips :220-230kg

Electrode paste :45-55kg

Power consumption :8400-9000kwh/t
