Fused magnesia is made of high quality magnesia which is melted. It is a sound high temperature electrical insulating material. In addition fused magnesia is an important raw material which can be applied to make high-grade magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks and monolithic refractory, which is widely used in metallurgy industry, petroleum industry and other industries.

Introduction

Fused magnesia is a type of high-temperature, high-quality electrical and thermal insulating material made from calcined magnesia. It is widely used in the metallurgy, petroleum, and other industries due to its high density, purity, and large crystals. Fused magnesia can be produced through the smelting of calcined magnesia in electric arc furnaces at above 3000°C.

Fused magnesia is produced by two-stage processes: either magnesium carbonate is directly fused or via the intermediate stage of caustic calcined magnesia. During the smelting process, the calcined magnesia is melted and then subjected to a high-temperature treatment, resulting in the formation of fused magnesia. The quality of fused magnesia is highly dependent on the equipment used for the smelting process and the production process used.

The primary applications of fused magnesia are in the manufacturing of high-grade magnesia bricks, magnesia carbon bricks, and monolithic refractory materials. Magnesia is one of the most important raw materials for refractory materials, which are used to manufacture various magnesia bricks, such as furnace lining bricks, rotary kiln bricks, and ramming materials. Magnesia is also used in the production of sintered magnesia, which is a one-step calcination product made from raw magnesite.

In addition to its use in refractory materials, fused magnesia is also used in the production of electric insulating materials. The high-temperature treatment of calcined magnesia results in the formation of fused magnesia with high density, high purity, and large crystals, making it an excellent electrical insulator. Application

Fused magnesia is usually used in the high temperature condition. For instance, fused magnesia can be used as the insulation material applied for the lining of vacuum induction furnace. It also can be used as the lining material of high frequency induction furnace and the furnace for smelting special alloy steel.
