The Impermeability Of Micro-silica Concrete
Concrete is a kind of permeable material, and its permeability is related to its porosity, pore distribution and pore connectivity. The smaller the water-cement ratio and the longer the curing age of vibratory compacted concrete, the smaller the permeability. Permeability can also be reduced by adding air entrainment agents to concrete. Generally, concrete with a water-cement ratio of less than 0.50 has a permeability coefficient of 1×10-11m/s. The permeability of concrete in seawater is an important factor that determines the durability of concrete engineering. Concrete with high permeability is easy to be destroyed in seawater. Because the silica powder particles are small, 20 to 100 times smaller than the cement particles, it can be filled into the space between the cement particles, so that the concrete is dense. At the same time, the secondary hydration of silica powder and the new products block the permeation channel in the concrete, so the permeability resistance of silica powder concrete is very strong, and the permeability of concrete increases with the increase of water-binder ratio. This is because water-cement is relatively less dense than concrete.
