White Corundum, Chrome Corundum And Brown Corundum Differences

The most direct visible color difference:

Brown corundum: brown

White corundum: white

Chrome corundum: rose red or Burgundy red

Hardness and toughness are different:

Hardness: White alumina > Red alumina > Brown alumina

(White corundum is 9.0, brown corundum is 8.5-8.9, red corundum is 9.1)

Toughness: Brown corundum > Red corundum > White corundum

Different composition:

White corundum: With high quality aluminum oxide powder as raw material, white corundum is crystallized by electric melting.

White corundum sand is generally 0-1mm, 1-3mm, 3-5mm, 5-8mm, physical and chemical indicators: Al2O3≥99% Na2O≤0.5% CaO ≤0.4%, magnetic matter ≤0.003%.

Chrome corundum: Its composition is mainly α-alumina, also known as red corundum, ruby. Now the market is mostly artificial red corundum.

Red corundum added 22% chromium on the basis of white corundum, made by electric arc furnace melting, the color is purple. The hardness is slightly higher than that of brown corundum, similar to white corundum, and the microhardness can be 2200-2300Kg/mm2.

Brown corundum: common name also known as carborundum, is the use of bauxite, carbon materials, iron chips three raw materials in the electric furnace melting reduction and made of tan artificial corundum, so this name, the appearance is tan, toughness, microhardness in 1800-2200Kg/mm2, volume density ≥3.85g/cm3. The main chemical composition of brown corundum is Al2O3, its content is 94.5%-97%, and contains a small amount of Fe, Si, Ti and so on. Brown corundum high temperature resistance, refractoriness up to 1850℃, is widely used as refractory material and abrasive.

Composition determines characteristics differently:

White corundum: white corundum is crystallized by electromelting, with high purity, good self-sharpness, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and stable hot state performance. White corundum hardness is slightly higher than brown corundum, toughness is slightly lower, high purity, good self-sharpness, strong grinding ability, small heat, high efficiency, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, high temperature thermal stability.

Brown corundum: It has the characteristics of non-initiation, non-pulverization and non-cracking in the application process, especially its cost performance is much higher than that of traditional brown corundum, and it becomes the aggregate and filler of brown corundum refractory.

Chrome corundum: toughness is higher than white corundum, slightly lower than brown corundum.

Scope of application

1. White corundum is suitable for the manufacture of ceramics, resin-consolidated abrades, grinding, polishing, sandblasting, precision casting (corundum for precision casting), etc., and can also be used to manufacture high-grade refractory materials. Suitable for a variety of high-end products, technology or hardware and other products surface beautification treatment, sandblasting surface white without any impurities, without cleaning trouble. Fine white corundum can be used as polishing head.

2. Brown corundum particle size sand is made of hand-selected brown corundum block, processed by rolling, ball milling, Barmack and other equipment, with particle size of F8-F325, mainly used for polishing, grinding, industrial grinding, etc., and can also be washed, pickling and other processing methods according to customer requirements, to meet the different needs of customers.

3. The abrades made of chrome corundum are suitable for grinding high-carbon steel, high-speed steel and thin-walled parts. Abrades can also be used as grinding, polishing materials, precision casting sand, spraying materials, chemical catalyst carriers, special ceramics, advanced refractory materials, etc.
