Brown Fused Alumina (BFA) is a refractory material which is manufactured by the smelting and refinement of Calcined Bauxite in an electric arc furnace or fixed furnace at temperatures greater than 2000℃. It is also known as electro corundum, brown corundum and brown aluminum oxide, obtaining mineral ally while fusing. The main component is alumina Al2O3. It has features of good crystallization, well toughness, low linear expansion coefficient, and corrosion resistance. Together with the advantages of high purity, ecologically clean and extremely hard material, Brown fused alumina is widely used in production of abrasives, refractory and in dry- and wet-blasting applications where it is reusable. Meanwhile, Brown fused alumina is free of not respirable crystalline silica (SiO2).

BFA is a product manufactured by gradual melting reduction of calcined bauxite in an electric arc furnace at high temperature (approximately 2000 degrees Celsius). Its chemical composition consists mainly of Al2O3 (94,5-97%) and vestigial amounts of TiO2, SiO2, Fe2O3, CaO and MgO.

Brown Aluminum Oxide is characterized by good toughness, high mechanical resistance and hardness (9 in Mohs scale). The microhardness of the material reaches about 1900kG/mm2. Specific gravity (density) equals 3,90+/-0,05 g/cm3. Bulk density depending on size equals 1,52-1,87 g/cm3. It has relatively high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion. As regards electricity it is an insulator.
