What Is The Use Of Chromite

The main uses of chromite are as follows.

(1) In the metallurgical industry

General requirements chromite grade Cr2O338% ~ 45%, Cr/Fe≥2, mainly used to produce chromite alloy and metal chromium. Chromium iron alloy as the additive of steel production of a variety of high strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance of special steel, such as stainless steel, acid steel, heat resistant steel, ball bearing steel, spring steel, tool steel and so on. Chromium metal is mainly used for smelting special alloys with cobalt, nickel, tungsten and other elements. These special steels and special alloys are indispensable materials for aviation, aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding, and defense industry production of guns, missiles, rockets, ships and so on.

(2) On refractory materials

Generally, the grade of chromite is Cr2O330%-35%, and SiO2 is less than 5%, which is used to manufacture chrome bricks. Chrome-magnesia bricks and fully synthetic high-grade refractory materials, as well as other special refractory materials, are widely used in open hearth furnace, induction furnace, metallurgical converter and cement industry rotary furnace lining.

(3) In the chemical industry

General requirements chromite grade Cr2O3≥ 30%, Cr/Fe≥2, mainly used to produce sodium dichromate, and then produce other chromium compounds, used in pigments, textiles, electroplating, tanning and other industries, but also to produce catalysts.

76% of the world's chromite consumption is used in the metallurgical industry, 13% in refractories and 11% in the chemical industry. About 80% of China's metallurgical industry, 4% for refractory materials, 16% for the chemical industry, there is also a small amount of chromium ore for the casting industry.
